Rebirthing certification · Rebirth Breath Therapy®
Rebirthing certification, taught in direct lineage from Leonard Orr
Global Breathing Awareness is the school behind Rebirth Breath Therapy® (RBT®) - a modern evolution of Rebirthing breathwork built on more than 20 years of practice. This page walks through who we are as a school, how the RBT® methodology works, what our Rebirthing certification training involves, and what happens once you're certified.
A school, not a workshop
Who we are
Global Breathing Awareness (GBA) is a school of breathwork founded by Katia Boustani in 2006. Katia trained directly under Leonard Orr, the originator of Rebirthing breathwork in the West, and is recognized as one of only five Rebirthing Breath Masters in the world honored with that title by Orr himself.
Over two decades, Katia built on that lineage to develop Rebirth Breath Therapy® (RBT®) - a refined, modern approach to Rebirthing that keeps the essence of the original method while being designed to fit into modern life, working as a supporting mechanism to help you actually integrate change into your day-to-day. GBA has since guided hundreds of students through this work, and our Rebirthing certification training is how that lineage is passed on to the next generation of practitioners.
We keep our sessions simple and unadorned - no added music, movement, or substances - because we trust the breath itself to do the work. That same simplicity and rigor carries through our certification training.
The methodology
What Rebirth Breath Therapy® is built on
RBT® works with what we call your breathprint (also called your breathing deviation): the unique pattern of breathing deviations each person develops in response to early experience, particularly the first years of life. These deviations quietly limit natural, full breathing and can carry through into physical and emotional patterns well into adulthood. Certified RBT® practitioners are trained to recognize and work with this breathprint safely, over a series of guided sessions.
The methodology rests on three interlocking areas of mastery, which is also how our Rebirthing certification curriculum is organized.
Mind mastery
Examining limiting beliefs formed in the first years of life - starting from birth and conception - and learning to work with, rather than against, the mind's patterns.
Breath mastery
Identifying and releasing breathing deviations through Guided Rebirth Breath Therapy® Sessions, restoring a full, free, natural breath. This integrates the nervous system, posture, and physiology so the changes made in a session hold in day-to-day life.
Energy mastery
Energy mastery is the accentuation of intuition and extra-sensory perception through exercises using elemental purification practices.
Certification path
The Rebirthing certification training
Our Rebirthing certification training is built around Breath and Life Mastery (BALM), an intensive program that combines the RBT® methodology with breathwork theory, facilitation technique, anatomy, and supervised client practice. It's designed for people who want to move beyond their own transformation and into holding space for others.
Breath and Life Transformation (BALT)
Before you can guide anyone else through this work, you go through it yourself. BALT is a self-development module - in a 10-day intensive or a slower-paced 12-week online format - that walks through your different life stages, from infancy to adulthood, paired with daily one-on-one RBT® sessions with a dedicated mentor in the in-person training, or weekly if you're taking it online. This is a required first step for certification, not an optional add-on : we want every practitioner who graduates from GBA to have deeply lived this work themselves before ever offering it to others.
Breath and Life Mastery (BALM)
The second 10-day module is where facilitation training begins. Most students book BALT and BALM together as a combined 20-day training, moving straight from their own transformation into facilitation without a gap between the two stages. You'll study breathwork theory, anatomy and physiology of the breath, facilitation technique, and trauma-informed, ethics-based client processing, balanced with hands-on, supervised practice guiding one-on-one and group sessions. After BALM, you move into a certification practicum before you're fully certified.
Certification practicum
After BALM, you complete an at-home practicum: 3 clients, 10 documented RBT® sessions each - 30 in total, with 2 of the 3 clients' sessions fully supervised - before certification is granted. As a bonus, you're welcome to return and repeat BALT free of charge as a mentor, receiving in-person supervision along the way. Once certified, you can offer private and group RBT® sessions and bring RBT® into retreats you host.
Advanced practitioner training
For certified graduates who want to go further, GBA offers advanced practitioner training for those ready to deepen their mastery and take on a more active role within the GBA community. Advanced practitioners are sometimes invited back to support or assist at trainings to further enhance their knowledge, supervise couples going through BALM, and mentor students - and are listed on our advanced practitioners page.
Teacher's training
Once you've completed all the levels above, you can apply to give certification-level trainings, authorised and under the supervision of GBA and Katia Boustani.
After you're certified
What happens once you've completed your Rebirthing certification
Certification is a beginning, not a finish line. Here's the path most of our graduates follow once they've completed their training.
Offer private and group sessions
Once certified, you're ready to see clients independently - one-on-one RBT® sessions or group settings - building directly on the practicum you've just completed.
Bring RBT® into your retreats
Certified practitioners can also offer RBT® as part of retreats they host or co-facilitate, extending the work beyond one-on-one sessions.
Join the global directory
Certified facilitators can be listed within the Global Breathing Awareness community, where people looking for breathwork sessions can find and connect with you directly.
Stay connected to the community
You keep access to the GBA social platform - groups and ongoing peer support from other RBT® practitioners and breathworkers across modalities - plus our monthly community support sessions and monthly Q&A sessions with Katia Boustani.
Grow into an advanced practitioner
Practitioners who want to go further can pursue advanced practitioner training - supervising BALM couples and mentoring the next generation of RBT® practitioners - with an optional Teacher's Training level after that for those ready to give certification-level trainings themselves.

Rebirthing certification, frequently asked
What is Rebirthing certification?
It's the training path that qualifies a practitioner to facilitate Rebirthing breathwork professionally. At GBA, this path is built around Rebirth Breath Therapy® (RBT®), and combines your own transformation work, facilitation training, and supervised practice.
Do I need prior breathwork experience to start?
No. The path begins with your own process, so no prior breathwork or facilitation experience is required - what matters most is your readiness to do the inner work before guiding others.
How is the training structured?
In stages: Breath and Life Transformation (BALT) for your own process, Breath and Life Mastery (BALM) for facilitation training, a certification practicum, an optional advanced practitioner training level for those who want to mentor and support future practitioners, and an optional Teacher's Training level for those ready to give certification-level trainings.
What can I do once I'm certified?
Offer private and group RBT® sessions, bring RBT® into retreats you host, be listed as a facilitator within the GBA community, and pursue advanced practitioner training to mentor future practitioners.
